 Al-Abrar has been the only Masjid serving the community of Aurora, Canada operating for years from rented spaces. With nothing but tawakkul and determination, they made a bold move in June 2024 by placing a downpayment on a building that was once a church. 

By the Mercy of Allah ﷻ, it has been transformed into a House of Allah since February 2025, but behind the scenes, the burden is heavy. They're still on the hook for $1.3million dollars to fully own the property. PLUS they have renovation costs to pay off, monthly bills, and the constant struggle to stay afloat. And yet, they still show up, praying Fajr, teaching their children, having community events, and remembering Allah.

The new building is approximately 14,000 sq ft across 2 floors, with 3 halls and 25+ rooms, enabling regular prayers, learning, programs, and community activities.

Join Hands To Build The Grand Islamic Center In Vaughan. 

The huge beautiful city of Vaughan, Ontario (Canada) is home to thousands of Muslims, Alhamdolillah.

We live as the Ummah should…

A peaceful, caring, and loving community, helping each other become better Muslims and better human beings.

We come from different nationalities under the umbrella of our beautiful religion…

Regardless of colour, race, or any other differences, we live together harmoniously.

We are proud to say, our community is one of the most loving, diverse, and educated Muslim communities in all of Canada – if not the world.

For years, Alhamdolillah, our community has been growing at a rapid pace.

A significant amount of Muslims every year move to Vaughan… Or REVERT to Islam!

We are glad that Allah has blessed us to help many reverts to Islam over time.

But For Such A Huge Community, We Face A Painful Situation:

We have not had a single masjid large enough to accommodate all our Muslim brothers and sisters.

We have thousands of community members, and not have a place to serve them all.

In 2017, we started a small Masjid -it accommodated very little of the thousands of community members.

This proved to be not enough. We chose to aim for a bigger space.

Then, realizing the growing need, we started looking for bigger spaces.

We acquired three units at 9100 Jane Street in Vaughan. The place has room for about 300 people.

Even then, it was far from accommodating the thousands.

It is heartbreaking to see some of them turn away and do not come back because they assume they will not find space…

It is troubling to think about the impact it will have on the kids and their future.

Our Track Record:

We have been honoured with the trust and support of the local Muslim communities.

When we announced that we wanted to acquire a place for a masjid on Jane Street in 2019, we raised $2.7 million within 24 months.

This masjid is in a shopping plaza and allows for 300 people at one time.

There are Qur’an classes for kids and classes for aqeedah, fiqh and supplications for everyone in the masjid.

This masjid is functional, Alhamdolillah, and offers a place for Muslim brothers and sisters.

The problem persists as more and more people join the community and want to pray in congregation as is Sunnah.

A masjid is what keeps us all together – eradicating all our differences.

A masjid that will not only help us guide the Muslims but also give a safe place to the new reverts.

We need a bigger space to make room for more people who want to pray and learn the religion in its true essence, and stay strong as Ummah.

Because of the Real Estate prices skyrocketing, we may NEVER have a masjid like this in Vaughan again.

We cannot compete with Real Estate Developers.

This place – or another like one – is not likely to be available at this price in the near future.

…and we may never be able to secure land for a masjid like this ever again.

The owner of this land is helpful and decided to give us preference, but only until the end of March, 2023, to pay $8.5 million.

About Islamic Society of Vaughan

We are raising funds to build a stand-alone masjid for Muslims from all over the city of Vaughan.

In the past, we have completed two Musallah projects. But, none of these were big enough to accommodate our rapidly increasing Muslim population.

This time, we want to go for a space to accommodate a larger number. We aim to have a safe, peaceful place for Muslim brothers, sisters, and children to associate with the soothing shade of Islam.
